Today we’ve been doing some archive browsing and ran across these print ads for Lego from 5 years ago. Lego is still using this playful aspect in their ads today. When playing with simplicity on your imagination the creative possibilities are endless. That’s what we like in Lego ads.

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Lego brick in Australia. To commemorate the milestone, Lego Australia has today launched the Festival of Play, a nine-month integrated campaign, encouraging kids and adult fans alike to celebrate through play.

The ads appeared on four consecutive pages. LEGO is a company that has fostered imagination, invention and creativity for over 60 years. So it is unusual for these ads to feature only long copy with minimal imagery. However, upon reading each of these scenarios the ad comes to life in a way that is unique only to the reader and how they see these playtime scenarios in their mind’s eye. The fourth ad in the series, “Yellow Brick” features a notepad with the tagline “Every LEGO brick tells a story. Build yours.”

What makes this latest Lego ambient advertisement creative is how they used the surrounding environment as part of the composition. The 3 clever bus shelter ads titled ‘Whale’, ‘Caterpillar’, and ‘Monster’ was created by Ogilvy Malaysia and their talented local team of Lego artists and builders.

This print advertisement was made for Lego in 2005 by Serviceplan Erste Werbeagentur. The use Lego bricks to recreate the prehistoric monument. There are many theories on how is was created but now we finally know.


Lego: Builders of tomorrow

Kids that use Lego today are the “builders of tomorrow”. This slogan for Lego is beautifully illustrated in these print ads. A Child in the sixties invents the cell phone, a kid in the seventies the energy-efficient lamp and one in the eighties the wind turbine.
