“In water, humans drown just as fish suffocate on land. It’s slow and painful and frightening. … Put yourself in their place. Try to relate.” This is how the new commercial from Peta starts featuring Joaquin Phoenix..

PETA loves to shock, that we know. If they don’t use famous supermodels such as Joanna Krupa or Elisabetta Canalis, they try to shock with other ideas, such as the famous ‘Death Bet’ from Berghs School of Communication. But this time, it’s different, and pretty disgusting..
“Increase your sexual stamina, go vegan”

Every year over 1000 race horses die in the United States, as a result of the extreme pressure they are exposed to. They are part of a million dollar industry, driven by betting. The Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm thought of a way to make people aware of this problem with their concept ‘Death Bet’. Betting on which horse will die first..

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, ran an interactive poster campaign in Singapore using advertisements fashion leather boots, bags and belts to draw attention to the all-too-common ugly side of the fashion industry. Viewers were invited to download the Stickybits application, scan a barcode with their smartphone, and “discover a new dimension of shopping”. When the barcode was scanned viewers were shown videos by Pamela Anderson and Joaquin Phoenix revealing the true cost of the item they were about to buy, and an invitation to explore cruelty-free shopping alternatives. Watch the videos after the break.

Be warned before you watch this spot, it’s extremely shocking! Peta uses footage of baby seals being clubbed to death; the soundtrack of the spot is Canada’s national anthem “O Canada”. Apparently the Canadian government still sponsors the annual seal slaughter. It’s a bit drastic to ‘attack’ a complete country for this brutal tradition, but sometimes it’s necessary to be extreme in your message to get it transferred. Peta aired the “Explore elsewhere” ad on Google and several travelling blogs

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is one of the biggest organization fighting for animal rights. With two million members and supporters worldwide, it claims the status of the largest animal rights group in the world. PETA has a history of using “shock” ads. Because of their provoking campaigns people remember their message longer and that’s all they want.

This is the last campaign made by PETA featuring Joanna Krupa, the Polish supermodel.
It shows her as an angel, fully naked, only holding a cross. The slogan is: “Be an Angel for animals, always adopt, never buy“.

Now you don’t have to guess who is more than angry on PETA. Christian critics are saying that it’s totally inappropriate and that PETA keeps on bringing Christian and Jewish themes to hawk its services.
Krupa replies: “As a practicing Catholic, I am shocked that the Catholic League is speaking out against my PETA ads, which I am very proud of. I’m doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals, the most defenceless of God’s creations.
