In Germany, there’s a centuries-old tradition that is always practiced on New Year’s Eve: lead-pouring. It involves melting lead over a candle and then pouring it into a bowl of water. Once the metal had solidified into a new shape, its meaning is interpreted, serving as a prediction for the coming year and hopefully bringing one thing in particular: Good fortune.
