Recalling 1993 promoted the New Museum exhibition, “NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star”. The exhibit brought powerful work created in New York in 1993 to the museum. The campaign brought gritty 1993 to every Manhattan street corner with the last remaining relics of that era: the pay phone.

By recording hundreds of stories from some of 1993’s most famous New Yorkers and creating a massive back-end database, Recalling 1993 turned every single pay phone in Manhattan—over 5,000 of them—into time machines. Every phone delivered a unique story specific to the street corner it was on.
